Siopi_Blog Post 4: Game Mechanics

Hi all, I am Jack Mercer and I am the new Tech-Lead for the Siopi project for Murdoch University. It has been a while but I am hoping to be semi-regular with these post updates in regards to the game mechanics. I am 3D artist by skill and have stepped into the coder role to hopefully progress this project, it has been quite the learning experience with my first time coding for a project in Unity.

But moving on! Game Mechanics We've got a simple enemy design with some fun-looking Slimes that will be in a few variations; land, air, etc. Who will be the primary obstacle that the Player will face in-game. A rudimentary design but fits the more 'bright' mood we've been taking the game from the original GrimDark roots it had when originally pitched in the Student meetings.

The Slimes pictured are the water enemies that will be a stationary foe who'll orientate towards the Player as they move around and will attack them with a ranged attack that will slow and damage, hampering them during their platforming attempts across the water-body he have designed to be present in the first area. Besides these enemies, I have been working on a Key & Door system that is a very basic form of gameplay interaction, allowing the player to traverse between the set-up areas in the game. As of right now, we have 3 main areas planned which we are hoping will have their own unique form of interactions in it, but given my rookie coding skills it is only something I can hope to achieve without severe jank. 🙂
